Disturbing news for the Chargers

The Chargers had to put wide receiver Keenan Allen’s name on the list of players unavailable due to COVID-19 on Monday.

The 29-year-old has been diagnosed positive with the virus, like 10 other NFL players elsewhere.

At a press conference, head coach Brandon Staley said he hopes his footballer will be able to play against the New York Giants next Sunday.

As he is vaccinated, Allen must receive negative results from two screening tests carried out 24 hours apart to be able to play this week. Had he not received the COVID-19 injection, the veteran would have been forced to stay away from his club’s activities for a minimum period of 10 days.

At the heart of a fight to advance to the playoffs, it is a stressful situation for the Chargers. The California team have maintained a 7-5 record so far in 2021, which puts them at second place in the American Association’s Western Section standings.

This season, Allen is ahead of all of the Chargers’ receivers in passes sent in his direction (124), catches (86) and yards (929). He also had four touchdowns in 12 games.
