The Keeper of the Seals, Eric Dupond-Moretti, was the guest of 8:30 a.m. franceinfo Thursday February 17. The Minister of Justice notably returned to the campaign promises of the candidate Les Républicains, Valérie Pécresse, and took the opportunity to take stock of his action at the Chancellery.
“What we did during the quinquennium, no one did”
“I defend this record because what we have done during the quinquennium, no one did” before, explained Eric Dupond-Moretti, noting in particular that “nearly 700 magistrates” have been hired. “Yes, we still need to hire magistrates and moreover, the next promotion of the National School of Magistracy will be the largest in the history of this school. Valérie Pécresse’s proposals on justice judged severely
The Minister of Justice also commented on the proposals on the security of Valérie Pécresse, LR presidential candidate. “Here is what Mrs. Pécresse would like people who have the bracelet [électronique] intended to avoid prison, they are locked up in prefabricated buildings (…). Outraged by the controversy over three appointments to the Constitutional Council
While three personalities must enter the Constitutional Council, the Keeper of the Seals reacted to the controversy that these appointments aroused. Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday proposed the Minister of Territorial Cohesion Jacqueline Gourault (MoDem), who should leave the government. The President of the National Assembly, Richard Ferrand (LREM), suggested Véronique Malbec, former director of the National School of the Judiciary (ENM) and current director of the cabinet of the Keeper of the Seals. While the President of the Senate proposed François Séners, his former chief of staff between 2014 and 2017 and current State Councilor.
For Eric Dupond-Moretti, “Richard Ferrand owes nothing to Véronique Malbec”. Ex-prosecutor general of Rennes, she was the hierarchical manager of the prosecutor who dismissed in October 2017 the Mutuelles de Bretagne case in which Richard Ferrand was implicated. “Dirting it in this way is ignominious (…) it’s absolutely disgusting”, reacted strongly Eric Dupond-Moretti. He also believes that it is “insulting to the prosecutor”.
“Richard Ferrand” designated [Véronique Malbec] because she is a great magistrate, because she is a great professional”added the Keeper of the Seals. “Everyone loves Véronique Malbec because she’s a very good person.” Regarding the appointment of his colleague Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Jacqueline Gourault, the Minister of Justice affirms that “everyone admires the quality of his work”, before deploring: “We need in this society to demolish. In a few years, at this rate, no one will want to do politics anymore.“.
