Disgruntled CAQ deputies | The duty

The recent gaffes of François Legault’s government have caused some CAQ deputies to react negatively. A recent poll, which places the Parti Québécois (PQ) six points ahead of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), must also have surprised many.

If things continue to go badly for the CAQ, I would not be surprised if the most nationalist members of this party become independent, then, ultimately, join the ranks of the PQ. Because going from the CAQ to the PQ would not be like going from the Liberal Party of Quebec to the PQ; Quebecers would not see it as a betrayal, the CAQ being a coalition of federalists and nationalists.

There will be no shortage of reasons to leave the CAQ ship: broken promises; the continued decline of French; the immovable federalism of Ottawa. If the socio-economic situation of Quebecers continues to deteriorate between now and the next elections, the temptation will be great…

Finally, I don’t know how the nationalist CAQ deputies manage to endure the federalist professions of faith of François Legault, the former independentist in a hurry. I think they must be boiling inside, like many nationalist Quebecers.
