The Falcon which brought back Benjamin Brière and Bernard Phelan, two ex-hostages held in Iran, landed on Friday May 12 in the early evening, at Le Bourget airport. Present on site, journalist Matthieu Boisseau takes stock of the situation.

Benjamin Brière and Bernard Phelan, two former French hostages detained in Iran, return far from the cameras on French soil, Friday May 12. “The two ex-hostages are weakened by their detention, this is partly why the families decided that there would be no official ceremony for this return to French soil”relates the journalist Matthieu Boisseau, live from Le Bourget airport (Seine-Saint-Denis).

fragile health conditions

The two ex-hostages have already been examined in Iran at the hospital upon their release from detention. “But these examinations will continue quickly on French soil. Benjamin Brière had been on a hunger strike since January, his lawyer explains that there was a vital risk, and his sister tells us that he could be taken to the hospital directly at the exit of the airport”, he continues. Bernard Phelan, 64, is also diminished. “He already suffered from health problems which worsened in prison”concludes the journalist.
