The 13 hours of France 2 takes you to Sardinia, Italy in an exceptional natural park which is home to one of the largest colonies of pink flamingos. Reportage.

All in the south of Sardinia (Italy)is ponds. And in this season, a unique show in Europe. It is the largest colony of flamingos, up to 50,000 birds find refuge here. Italians flock to watch the show. The human presence disturbs the pink flamingos. It’s important to respect all species and stay away“, explains a tourist guide to a small group.

About a month ago, the flamingos laid their eggs, all the more precious as each couple conceives only one a year. Between May and June, the chicks break their shells and they are grey. They will only turn pink as adults by consuming larvae and algae that contain carotene. Scientists are committed to protecting newborns in this natural park. Once adults, flamingos have few predators. The main concern is the draining of marshes.
