The 13 Hours of Tuesday May 23 takes you to Cape Verde on the island of Santo Antão, the greenest and most mountainous. There, there is no mass tourism, but a magical place for nature lovers.
It is probably the most beautiful of the Cape Verde islands, the one where nature is the most breathtaking: santo island Antao. It was discovered by a Portuguese navigator in 1462. More than 560 years later, this is where a group of Belgian vacationers meet, ready to treat themselves to 10 days of hiking in the heart of breathtaking landscapes. “Everything is beautiful, it’s peaceful, it’s calm, there is no civilization, no stress (…)”reports Véronique Renson, a hiker.
Tourism and agriculture, pillars of the economy
The group is guided by Cassio Lopez, a Cape Verdean determined to share with his customers every little surprise that comes his way. On the island, tourism is one of the mainstays of the economy, along with agriculture. The land there is very fertile. Residents have learned how to make the most of these resources. Sandro Lacerenza is the owner of the “Chez Sandro” inn. After a trip to the island, the Frenchman decided to settle there. “I could never leave”he said.
