“We are raising public awareness to explain that bees are dying, that we must react and ban pesticides.” Volkan Tanaci, 46 years old, is an urban beekeeper in Paris, he participates in the Api’Week event which also aims to raise awareness of the quality and origin of beekeeping products, through visits and workshops offered throughout France, until tomorrow, by hive professionals.
Founder of CityBzz, Volkan Tanaci is one of the 63,415 beekeepers listed in France, the France where we consume 600g of honey per inhabitant, per year.
And it was a love story that led this former banker of Turkish origin to come and settle in Paris 12 years ago, and to take up the profession of beekeeper. He produces “Paris Honey”. A yellow gold without pesticides, which earned it the silver medal last year at the Concours des Miels in Ile-de-France.
“I am often asked the question of whether my honey is not polluted. Well no! All the analyzes show that it is perfectly healthy and up to standard.”

The beekeeper works by hand in the traditional way. All year round, he shows off his hives. He installed three of them at La Recyclerie, in the “Bercy Cadeau” solidarity third place in the 12th arrondissement of the capital, where he arranged to meet us.
A month and a half ago, he opened the first store with an integrated honey house, in Paris, square Dunois in the 13th arrondissement. A 60m2 space, equipped with a large table for tasting. Behind the glass roof, we watch the beekeeper work, from extracting the honey to putting it in a pot.
