In China, the city of Suzhou attracts many tourists. Between its canals, its bridges and its crafts, it enjoys undeniable success.

The city of Suzhou is one of the oldest in China, with 2,500 years of history. It has multiple bridges and 82 km of canals. The boats are often driven by women. Even in winter, despite the cold and humidity, tourists flock by the thousands every day. “Marco Polo came to Suzhou in the 13th century, in 1276. The city reminded him of his native Venice and it was he who called Suzhou the Venice of the East“, explains Liu Yuting, guide.

Craftsmanship in the spotlight

The city is known for its bridges, but also for its silk. In Suzhou, traditional Chinese outfits are a sensation. Many people dress in these old outfits and then have their photos taken in these places. “When I look around me at all these people wearing the same period outfit, we are connected, we are all transported to ancient China“, indicates Wan Zi, student. Fans are also a specialty of this city, where craftsmanship still has its place.
