The 13 Heures Découverte takes you this week to legendary beaches. Tuesday October 3, head to the island of Saint John in the Virgin Islands.
She perfectly embodies the dream image of a heavenly beach. With dozens of shades of blue and green, Maho Bay on Saint John Island is considered a pearl of the Caribbean. Tourists come from all over the world to taste its warm waters. “It’s warmer than the swimming pool”, laughs a tourist. The little Eden is also the symbol of protected and intact nature. Like every day, André Hernandez comes to the island for a very specific reason: to take photos of the rarest species of the Bay. “I love sharing the underwater world with others”, he explains.
Two thirds of the island classified
Barely underwater, another world is offered to him. There are fish in particular that seem to come straight out of the imagination. “To concentrate on the photo, you have to take a step back and put aside your emotions”, continues the photographer. Nothing compares to the waters of Saint John for André Hernandez and his friend. Two thirds of the island are classified as a nature reserve, none hotel cannot be located nearby. The beaches are particularly preserved for turtles, especially when they are laying eggs.
