In Corrèze resides one of the largest manufacturers of accordions in France, which was created in 1919. It has since been classified as a “living heritage company”.

For more than a century, Tulle (Corrèze) has lived to the rhythm of the accordion. An emblem in this city where the tunes continue to resonate even today. The Maugein accordion factory, in addition to giving lessons to young and old, is one of the largest French manufacturers of this instrument. Taken over by Jérôme Brandao nine years ago when it was on the verge of closure, it now shines with a thousand lights.

An accordion city to come in 2024 in Tulle

Twelve craftsmen work in this factory, like Stéphane Gasnière, tuner. Its role is to adjust each blade to the passage of the air to produce the note so much sought after. Thomas Baligean, a 23-year-old apprentice cabinetmaker, is well aware of participating in the survival of a skill that has become rare. To admire his instruments even more closely, you will have to wait a bit: Tulle will open its accordion city at the beginning of next year.
