Through his investigation, journalist Bernard Lions reveals in particular that during the last winter transfer window, ASSE managed to recruit seven players for only 300,000 euros in cumulative salaries, despite high-sounding names, attracted by bonuses: “Players like Crivelli or Sacko have bonuses which will be added to their base salary if their objective is reached, if ASSE manages to maintain itself. For Eliaquim Mangala it’s different, it’s not the same player, not the same status. He received a signing bonus, which inflated his income by around 75,000 euros including tax. This is where the club kept the roadmap that was fixed: take four players with an envelope of 100,000 euros gross monthly each. He managed to take seven, to crumble this budget envelope which they did not reach because it ultimately only amounted to 300,000 euros. A trend naturally linked to the economic situation for ASSE, which requires management to limit very large salaries and to only offer emoluments in line with the uncertain sporting and financial situation of the club.
