We finally know what Amy Winehouse will really look like in one of the most anticipated biopics of the year. In Back to Blackpromised on French screens on April 24, it is the actress Marisa Abela who lends her features to the vibrant British singer, author and composer, who died in 2011 at the age of 27.

If we are to believe the first trailer unveiled by StudioCanal, Marisa Abela looks rather convincing without quite resembling her, in this film by director Sam Taylor-Johnson, already seen at work in Nowhere Boy, which told the story of John Lennon’s youth. “I don’t write songs to be famous, I write songs… because I don’t know what I would do otherwise”, explains the singer in the first images of the trailer. Look.

Back to Black, taken from the title of her second and final studio album with global success, traces the tumultuous life of Amy Winehouse and the creation of this flagship album which made her a star, inspired by her love story with Blake Fielder-Civil , played on screen by Jack O’Connell. In this film, approved by the artist’s family, many hits by the singer will appear. Rehabsung by actress Marisa Abela.

The story of Amy Winehouse is that of an unforgettable artist who sang her flaws with her guts, that of an authentic jazz and soul singer with a meteoric and tragic trajectory – she died at 27 of an overdose of alcohol after a period of abstinence, while she was in poor health and struggling with drug addiction.

The skinny star with the retro hairstyle and gravelly voice has been the subject of various biopic projects in Hollywood in recent years, none of which have come to fruition until now. In 2015, the remarkable documentary Amy by Asif Kapadia, who looked back on her life thanks to the numerous archive images that she had left of herself in the media, in family videos, on social networks and in her personal exchanges with her friends, won the Oscar for best documentary.
