We will have to wait a few more months to see the first Hollywood production dedicated to Bob Marley. The project was carried by his son Ziggy Marley.

Bob Marley: One Love is the title of the biopic dedicated to the king of reggae. It is expected in 2024 in theaters. A first trailer for the film was released on July 6 by Paramount. The production of the feature film was entrusted to Reinaldo Marcus Green (The Williams Method) and is produced by Ziggy Marley, son of the musical icon who died on May 11, 1981. Bob Marley is played by British comedian Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami) and her compatriot, Lashana Lynch (The Woman King), interprets Rita, the mother of Ziggy.
A pivotal period in Marley’s life
“Nothing comes before its time and it’s time for our father Bob Marley’s story to be told in a biopic hitting theaters in 2024,” wrote Ziggy Marley on his Instagram page to announce the release of the first extract. “This film, he continues, will introduce you for the first time to what it was like to walk alongside the legend, to see his pain, his sorrows, his joys and his redemption“. The film was shot in England and Jamaica, with a predominantly Jamaican cast. Actress Lashana Lynch is also of Jamaican origin.
The film takes place at the time of the creation of the album Exodus. “The years 1976 and 1977 were great periods in Bob’s life. You really have to understand this period to (THE) to understand”, said Reinaldo Marcus Green in an interview with Shadow and Act. “From the start, he continues, we didn’t want to do some sort of cradle-to-grave story. We didn’t feel like it had to be done to capture the essence of what Bob was going through at that time. This period of Bob’s life is very rich (…) in terms of becoming a man (And) to leave a legacy to the world”.
