Asterix and Obelix Mission Cleopatrathe cult film by Alain Chabat released 21 years ago, is getting a makeover for a release in theaters on July 5 in a restored 4K version, at the single price of 5 euros.

In a trailer unveiled on June 15, it is Alain Chabat who himself does the article for this new version of the film. “Over time and a few TV appearances, the shades faded, the colors lost their freshness. Even with a home cinema installation, I couldn’t find the shine worthy of the famous Egyptian pyramids (the sharp things there ?)”he states learnedly, before praising how Idiotsthe virtues of “cine boost, the latest from 4K laboratories”.

“Richness of colors and an unprecedented level of image and sound detail”

“Its formula enriched with trace elements plunges into the heart of the original film, to restore all its radiance and youth” continues the director. More seriously, Pathé announces in a press release that it has worked “on nearly 300 reels of film, pto obtain the best possible quality”. “This exceptional work has combined traditional film restoration techniques and Artificial Intelligence to improve the definition of certain period effects and give the image even more brilliance and precision”, says the press release. A real post-production work therefore, more than twenty years after the release of the film.

“The sound was mixed in Dolby Atmos (immersive sound) and the image calibrated in Dolby Cinema for equipped cinemas and Dolby Vision for television screens.“, adds the press release.

Pathé also promises “surprises”, without giving further details. We know, however, that we will be able to discover full or unpublished versions of certain scenes at the end of this new version of the film, as Alain Chabat announced.

The film comes out at the single price of 5 euros as part of the Film Festival, but the offer will be extended beyond July 5.
