Among the forty trees planted 50 years ago, some are from here and others come mainly from Asia or America:

  • THE SEQUOIA of the Sierra Nevada, also known as wellingtonia but for the French, it is a reminder of the name: General Wellington who defeated Napoleon so in France we preferred the name of SEQUOIA: in tribute to Sequoyah, Indian of the Cherokee tribe.

Sequoyah is best known for being the creator of an alphabet universal used since by all the Amerindian tribes, alphabet which allowed the literacy of the Indians. This chief was reputed to be very strong, very persevering, just like this tree.

  • the Bald cypress, a tall conifer (up to 40 meters tall) that grows naturally in swamps in the southern and eastern United States. Original tree that has several peculiarities: it loses its needles in winter unlike almost all conifers (hence its name “bald”) and has especially curious growths next to its base, there are aerial roots in contact with air.

An enthusiast will tell you the story of some of these trees, guided tours on request.
