This is one of the musical surprises of this new school year. The return of Julien Doré on record. Four years after his last album, the 42-year-old singer announces the release of a double album of covers for November 8. On Wednesday, August 28, he reveals a first track, As long as they are soft by Mylène Farmer.
“You insist on not giving a damn about anything/But as long as they are sweet/Of a poet you have only the moon in mind/You are knocked out by my curves”. It’s cheeky for Julien Doré to tackle such a monument of song, released in 1988 by Mylène Farmer and which helped make her an icon.
The singer offers a piano-voice version, nicely illustrated by his accomplice Brice VDH in a clip where the Julien Doré of 2024 summons the one of 2007. A strong (and claimed) nod to his beginnings, 17 years ago, when the whole of France discovered him in the show “La nouvelle star”, with a disconcerting cover of Lolitathe hit by Alizée written by… Mylène Farmer.
For the time being, Julien Doré prefers to keep secret certain titles that will feed this mischievously titled album Impostor. But we already know that this opus will notably include the cover of A Happy Man by William Sheller in duet with Francis Cabrel, I will be there for you from the Italian group Ricchi e Poveri in duet with Hélène Ségara, Midnight Demons from the Images group, The Kiffance from Naps or the eternal jazz standard Fly me to the moon.
