Discord has launched a new Ignore feature, allowing users to avoid interactions with troublesome individuals without blocking them. This tool, introduced in January 2025, lets users discreetly hide messages and notifications from selected contacts, all while keeping those users unaware of the decision. Ignoring someone is simple and can be done through various methods, including user profiles and security alerts. Users can also easily manage their ignored list through settings, although the feature remains experimental.
New Feature on Discord: Ignore Unwanted Users
Discord has introduced an exciting new feature designed to help you maintain your peace by keeping bothersome users at a distance. This handy tool allows you to manage your interactions without having to outright block anyone. Discover everything you need to know about this fantastic addition!
Why Use the Ignore Feature?
Discord serves as a popular platform for millions of gamers and professionals worldwide, facilitating communication, collaboration, and connection among players. However, as with any social platform, interactions can sometimes lead to unpleasant encounters. If you’re a gamer, you’ve likely found yourself paired with someone who disrupted your experience, making you wish for a way to avoid them in the future. Previously, your options were limited to blocking or muting users.
Enter the Ignore feature, rolled out in early January 2025. This innovative tool allows you to discreetly tune out the most annoying users without them knowing. By employing this function, you can effectively hide new messages, notifications from direct messages (DMs), and server communications from specific individuals. The best part? They won’t be alerted to your choice!
When you choose to ignore a user, their private messages will appear grayed out, and a crossed-out eye icon will indicate their status. Their messages will be concealed in DMs, group chats, and servers, although you can still view them by clicking “Show” if you’re curious. Furthermore, if you attempt to join a voice or video call featuring an ignored user, you’ll receive a helpful warning: “Someone you are ignoring is here. If you join, they will still be ignored. Be careful, you may hear yourself.”
How to Use the Ignore Feature on Discord
Ignoring a user on Discord is a straightforward process. Here are the various methods you can utilize:
- Via User Profile: Whether on mobile or desktop, click on the user’s avatar, then tap the three dots in the top right corner, and select “Ignore.”
- Through Security Alerts: If Discord detects potentially harmful messages, minors receive alerts, allowing them to select the Ignore option directly.
- After Reporting: If you report a user for inappropriate messages, you can choose the Ignore option from the “More things to do” menu.
- In a Private Message: If you get a message from an unwanted user, right-click their avatar, open the dropdown menu, select “Ignore,” and confirm your choice.
It’s important to note that you can manage your ignored users easily. Navigate to Settings > Content and Social, and scroll down to find the list of ignored or blocked accounts. Here, you can un-ignore someone if you change your mind. This feature is still experimental, so it may not be available to all users across mobile, desktop, and browser platforms just yet.
