A former nurse convicted of possessing 130,000 files of child pornography still wants to return to his job even though he denies having a “deviant sexual interest”. But upon his release from prison, Yannick Langlois-Gingras was again caught with illegal images of children.
The 33-year-old Montrealer pleaded guilty on 1er March at the Montreal courthouse, on charges of possession of child pornography and non-compliance with court orders.
Yannick Langlois-Gingras was a nurse in the Rimouski region between 2018 and 2021 when he was caught with 130,000 files of child pornography showing girls aged 2 to 14 in explicit positions or with adult men. He was thus sentenced to a prison term of two years less a day in September 2022 at the Rimouski courthouse.
But from January 2023, Yannick Langlois-Gingras benefited from a form of conditional release and entered a halfway house. He even won the right to own a phone for his job search, under “strict conditions”.
Three months later, Yannick Langlois-Gingras was caught red-handed, relatively by chance. A worker who was trying to print a document at the request of the accused noticed a questionable email on the phone from a dating site.
Yannick Langlois-Gingras then explains to the speaker that he connected to Tinder to delete his account. Then, when the employee came across an email from the dating site for married people Ashley Madison, the offender burst into tears and said he “felt alone” since his separation.
Digging further, the worker discovered hundreds of child pornography files in the phone’s “trash can”. These appear to have been deleted the day before.
Yannick Langlois-Gingras defends himself by explaining that he downloaded the files to his Google account to delete them.
The police thus discovered 378 files, mainly showing sordid scenes of sexual assault with girls aged 2 to 12. A video shows a 4-year-old girl being attacked by an adult. According to the Parole Board, Yannick Langlois-Gingras also hid a USB key, pieces of paper with unknown numbers and a capsule containing powder.
A few days after his arrest, the Quebec Parole Commission revoked his release.

We learn in the decision that Yannick Langlois-Gingras denies having a deviant sexual interest. These images even aroused in him “rage and the desire to denounce”. He thus alleges that an “unhealthy curiosity [s’est] insidiously installed” in connection with the abuse he suffered.
If he consumed such images, it was therefore to find the virtual victims and the aggressors, he claims. But his “initially comforting quest” would have somehow degenerated. According to an expert, the accused did have deviant sexual interests towards minors.
Last February, the disciplinary council of the Order of Nurses of Quebec imposed a two-year disbarment on Yannick Langlois-Gingras and a lifetime ban on practicing with minors.
The Council evokes actions of “extreme seriousness” which are “incompatible” with the values of the nursing profession.
“The fact for a nurse to condone this violence against children raises serious doubts about his morality and his ability to promote the health and well-being of the public,” maintains the Council, which assesses his risk as “medium” of recurrence.
Yannick Langlois-Gingras is no longer a member of the Order of Nurses of Quebec since 1er April 2022, since he has not renewed his registration. However, he confirmed to the Council that he wanted to request re-registration upon his release.
“He testifies that his profession is very close to his heart and is a real vocation,” the decision indicates.
Yannick Langlois-Gingras remains detained. The case will return to court next June for sentencing.
