The man who confessed to the prescribed murder of Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti, 36 years after the facts, is not done with justice. Investigators suspect him of being responsible for other disappearances.
It took 36 years for the disappearance of Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti to be clarified. In May 2022, Yves Châtain, a neighbor at the time, was arrested. He confesses to having killed him and buried his body. The case, which is too old, is time-barred and the suspect asks to be released. Justice opposed it, Thursday, November 10, the time to identify the human remains remained near his home. “It’s great news although it’s a battle that’s won, not yet the war“, advance Maître Bernard Boulloud, lawyer for the Bonfanti family.
The question remains whether Yves Châtain is behind other disappearances. In the 1980s, at least six young women mysteriously vanished in the Pontcharra sector (Isère), around the opulent house where the suspect lived. “Everyone points to Châtain as being a potential player in these different cases. He explains that he has violent impulses, and that he must strike“, underlines a former commissioner, who redid the entire investigation into the missing people of Pontcharra. The lawyer for the families of the victims is asking for the opening of a new investigation into these disappearances.
