Marilyn Bergeron was last seen 14 years ago today. Today, to mark this sad anniversary, his mother took the floor to tell him: “We will always look for you. We will never stop, Mary”.
“No matter your condition, no matter what you have become […] We are waiting for you with open arms and we love you”.
Andrée Béchard stood in the pouring rain on Thursday, near the command post of the Service de police la ville de Québec (SPVQ) set up where her daughter was last seen, February 17, 2008, in a cafe of Saint-Romuald, near Lévis.
“Someone somewhere knows the truth. And the reason why we haven’t heard from Marilyn. »
She implored those who know something to have the courage to come forward, so that these 14 years of waiting, stress and questions can finally end.
Ms. Béchard wants to draw a line under “our long, unanswered journey that weighs on our lives, in helplessness and worry”.
Then aged 24, Marilyn went for a walk that morning, but never came back. She would be 38 today.
A witness confirmed to the police having seen her that afternoon in the café of Saint-Romuald. She was alone. Earlier, cameras caught her withdrawing money from an ATM in the Neufchâtel district of Quebec.
A folder never tablet
Despite the passage of time, the investigation and research file is still active.
“This kind of investigation is never shelved,” said Sergeant David Poitras of the SPVQ.
He gives as an example the case of Diane Carrier, who disappeared nearly 60 years ago. This too is still an active investigation today.
The command post was deployed early Thursday to encourage those who never came forward to do so, or those who did not reveal everything they knew. “The smallest little clue can help”.
The sergeant does not want to comment on the chances of finding the young woman after 14 years, but he insists that “the chances are not zero”.
Ms. Béchard hopes that this ultimate effort “will have the desired effect”.
“We need to put an end to our great suffering which is due to your absence”, she said, addressing her daughter, asking her to give a sign of life, “if necessary, by no one interposed,” she said.
“We love you Mary. »
