It was the close collaboration between the SQ and the Thetford Mines Police Department that led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman in the afternoon.

At the time of this writing, the two individuals were being interviewed by investigators. They are scheduled to appear at the Thetford Mines courthouse on Friday.

These are the same two people who had been met by the provincial police force earlier this week, after a search. “But their status changed during the investigation,” explains Marythé Bolduc, spokesperson for the SQ.

They are now considered the main suspects in the murder of Frédérik Gagné, a 32-year-old man who had been missing since December 17.

Authorities called for the public’s help in locating him on Monday, but quickly raised the possibility that the man may have been the victim of a criminal act. New troops were deployed Wednesday in two sectors of the region to “find elements related to this disappearance”.

Although the Sûreté du Québec now claims that Frédérik Gagné was murdered, his remains have still not been found.

“The Sûreté du Québec is continuing land research in the Thetford Mines sector. Additional specialized units of the Sûreté du Québec could be deployed if necessary, ”said Mr.me Bolduc.
