Authorities were called to check on the child’s well-being early Monday evening. However, once they arrived at the residence, they could not find the girl, and an investigation was opened.
Although the child has still not been found, investigators believe she may be dead. So the homicide section took the case, Edmonton police said in a statement released Friday. The police force also specified that various partners, such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), were assisting it in the process of locating the girl.
On Thursday, a 27-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man were arrested in connection with the case. The woman faces charges of first degree murder and contempt of a corpse, while the man is charged with accessory to murder and contempt of a corpse. According to police information, the two adults knew the child.
The investigation and research are continuing in order to shed light on this matter.
