(Gatineau) The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) announces that it has fined Air Canada $97,500 for violating the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations.
The penalty of $97,500 concerns several regulatory infractions.
The agency says that on Aug. 30, Air Canada failed to help a wheelchair user disembark from his plane.
The passenger, who suffered from spastic cerebral palsy and was unable to move his legs, was forced to disembark on his own.
Additionally, the CTA alleges that Air Canada failed to ensure that its staff periodically checked the passenger in while he waited at the terminal.
Air Canada admitted in November to violating Canada’s disability regulations and apologized to a British Columbian man who was forced to drag himself off a plane during a flight to Las Vegas this summer.
