A complaint for rape targeting the director and actor Nils Tavernier was recently filed with the Annecy public prosecutor’s office (Haute-Savoie), the latter announced Friday April 5 to AFP, confirming information from the magazine The New Obs. The complaint of this 32-year-old woman concerns rape committed in 2012 when she was 19 years old, specifies the magazine. The young woman at the origin of the complaint confirmed the filing to AFP, without wanting to comment further immediately. “I’m taking the time to digest all of this before speaking again”she said.

The New Obs reports another complaint for rape filed by a second woman, now 45 years old and denouncing acts committed in 1992 when she was 13 years old. Testifying openly in the magazine, the two women say they were upset by the testimonies of sexual violence from actresses Adèle Haenel and especially the more recent one from Judith Godrèche, who convinced them to break the silence.

The director denies the accusations

“Our client formally contests the accusations of rape reported by Nouvel Obs”responded Nils Tavernier’s lawyers, Claire Josserand-Schmidt and Dan Hazan, in a press release to AFP. “He will only respond to the judicial authority, if he were to be invited to do so.”, they emphasize. Nils Tavernier, quoted by the magazine, said “stunned” and not have “nothing to [se] reproach”.

Born September 1, 1965, Nils Tavernier is the son of director Bertrand Tavernier and screenwriter Colo O’Hagan Tavernier. He has to his credit “more than 40 films as a director and documentary maker”, notably The Incredible Story of the Horse Postman released in 2018.
