Director Maïwenn was sentenced, Tuesday January 16, to a fine of 400 euros for willful violence without temporary interruption of work (ITT), noted a franceinfo journalist present at the hearing. In February 2023, she attacked Edwy Plenel in a Parisian restaurant. The filmmaker is also sentenced to one euro in moral damages for the founder of Médiapart and 1,500 euros in moral damages for Mediapart. The filmmaker was on trial at the Paris police court, the public prosecutor had requested a fine of 700 euros.

At the hearing, she refused to apologize to the founder of Médiapart: “I don’t apologize and I don’t regret”she said at the bar. “No violent gesture could have compensated for what I experienced”according to Maïwenn. “My behavior does not match the upheaval that it was in my life, what Médiapart did to me”. For his part, at the end of the hearing, Edwy Plenel said: “Justice has heard us.”

“A moral rape” according to the filmmaker

In June 2023, in the columns of the Journal du Dimanche, the director claimed to have attacked the co-founder of Mediapart, Edwy Plenel, for the publication of his hearing in the case of Luc Besson, father of her daughter, accused of rape by the actress Sand Van Roy. “I don’t blame Mediapart for the investigations they carried out concerning Luc Besson. I blame them for what they did to me”, declared Maïwenn in the weekly. She said she felt “a moral rape”. In June 2023, French justice confirmed on appeal a dismissal of the accusations of actress Sand Van Roy in favor of Luc Besson. However, a judicial investigation into the same facts is still underway in Belgium.
