The science fiction film Avatar, the biggest box office success in history, signed James Cameron, dates from 2009. We had to wait until 2022 for the second part of the saga while next year, in 2025, the third film will be released in cinemas French. The schedule for the following releases is set like clockwork: the fourth part is expected for 2029 and the fifth for 2031. Dates which seem very distant from the release of the first film in the franchise. But if the perspective may seem vague, James Cameron does not seem to want to stop there.

In an interview with the American weekly People during the Saturn Awards ceremony which took place on February 5, the director declared that he “completely finished” writing the fifth part and having “ideas” for the scenarios ofAvatar 6 and 7. Aged 69, the one who is also at the origin of the film Titanicjoked about the fact that he should perhaps pass the baton for the production of the last parts: “Let’s just say mortality catches up with us. But we love what we do.”

The father of the world of Pandora also mentioned Avatar as placing itself in the lineage of the sagas Star Trek And Star Wars which respectively number – and not counting the spin-off films – thirteen and nine feature films. Star Trek, Star Wars : these franchises that develop a universe have surrounded me since I was little. They were my inspirations”, he explained to the American media journalist. Perhaps even more films to come?

The first two parts of the franchise Avatar occupy the first and third place of the greatest cinematic successes in the world. The first film grossed $2.9 billion in global box office revenue, the second 2.2 billion. In France, the sections brought together 14.7 and 13.3 million spectators respectively. During the interview, James Cameron said that the success of the films “in all markets around the world” gave real energy to its teams to continue the adventure.

If James Cameron said he had ideas for future parts, the rest of the saga still remains a mystery for fans. The director has not revealed anything about the third part which will be released in December 2025. The only information for the moment is that the cast will once again include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver.
