Claude Lelouch always answers the call from Deauville. And his fans are grateful to him. On the occasion of the centenary of Les Planches, the director came to honor, a few days in advance, the lovers’ celebration.
The opportunity also, during a walk on the stage, to tell great anecdotes about his film A man and a woman, filmed in these places 59 years ago. It was with this film that he immortalized the Deauville boards, which have now become legendary.

“It was in Deauville that I had the idea of making A Man and a Woman,” testifies Claude Lelouch in front of many fans who came to meet him during a movie trip to Deauville: “he’s a director that I really like, I’ve always been one!” admits a fan from the start, “Chabadabada Chabadabada”, hums another in the crowd. “It’s a little miracle, I’m taking advantage of it”
In 1965, Claude Lelouch was depressed. Chance leads him to the stages of Deauville. And this is where the story ofA man and a woman : “When I came here I was in trouble. I had big financial problems. I had just made a film that didn’t work. And then all of a sudden the light came on, it was the release of the tunnel” he says before continuing : “How stories get into people’s heads? We don’t know. We don’t have to explain miracles, it’s a small miracle, I’m taking advantage of it.”
And if the Planches already had their fame before the feature film, for 60 years, Deauville has still benefited from the international fame of this cinematographic love story between Jean-Louis Trintigant and Anouk Aimée, as evidenced by Philippe Augier the mayor from the city : “The image that this film conveys, the romanticism and glamor is now part of the image of Deauville. That’s why we very often try to do events with Claude, particularly around Valentine’s Day, because it embodies the romanticism of Deauville beach,” he explains.
For his arrival this year, a nice gift also awaited the filmmaker’s fans. A Ford Mustang, an identical replica of the one in the film, placed on the boards.
