Filmmaker Carole Laganière died at the age of 64 on Monday. During her career, she will have signed numerous documentaries, including bride of life And A roof, a violin, the moontwo works that won Best Canadian Documentary at the Hot Docs in Toronto in 2002 and 2003.
His most recent film, Flee, released last September, denounces domestic violence. To make this documentary, Carole Laganière spent many months in a women’s shelter.
Before turning to documentaries, the director filmed works of fiction. His short films The pocket handkerchief (1988) and Day off (1989) have received international awards.
“Over the past twenty years, Carole Laganière has been an important figure in documentary cinema in Quebec,” said Marcel Jean, general manager of the Cinémathèque québécoise, on the organization’s Facebook page.
“Beyond the quality of his films, highlighted by numerous awards, we must also point out the constancy of his approach and his work. Carole defended an idea of the documentary that is attentive and generous,” he added.
