Direction of the PLQ | Pierre Moreau will not be a candidate

Former Minister Pierre Moreau announced on Monday that he would not be a candidate for the succession of Dominique Anglade at the head of the Liberal Party of Quebec after having fueled the rumor machine by his silence for several weeks.

In a tweet posted on Monday morning, the lawyer said he had been encouraged to come forward by several aides, former colleagues and activists.

He assured that he intended to remain an “active” member of the PLQ.

“I will continue to campaign for a more inclusive, fairer and more prosperous Quebec with respect for its French-speaking majority and the other communities that also make up Quebec society,” he continues, in a thinly veiled criticism of the Legault government.

His departure from the show Politics buffs at the end of the last television season and his refusal to say if he was interested in replacing Dominque Anglade, the day of the announcement of the resignation of the latter, had revived the rumors about his potential candidacy.

Pierre Moreau was part of the short list of candidates approached to replace the former leader of the PLQ, who announced his resignation on November 7 at the zenith of criticism of his leadership.

Elected for the first time in 2003, Pierre Moreau took on a large number of files in the Charest and Couillard governments, notably Municipal Affairs, Transport and Natural Resources. He is now associated with the law firm Bélanger Sauvé.
