The Dijon Red Cross received a donation of five tons of clothing on Wednesday, August 21. They come from a seizure made by customs last January, as part of a drug trafficking case.
It was a somewhat unusual delivery on Wednesday, August 21, to the Red Cross in Dijon (Côte-d’Or): customs officers came to offer five tons of clothing to the association. Behind this gift, a seizure carried out a few months ago. “Instead of destroying them, customs decided to donate them to a humanitarian association“, explains Cindy Barbet, the deputy regional director of customs in Dijon.
In January, customs intercepted a truck coming from Spain. On board, hidden under clothing, they discovered 800 kg of cannabis that was heading for Germany. They decided to donate the five tons of clothing to the Red Cross. “It’s fabulous for all the people who are waiting for this,” confides a member of the association. “There is nothing to throw away”rejoices another. The association will distribute the clothes for free, starting next week.
