Reprieve for the SIM card
Careful observers noted during the last Apple event that there was no question of the disappearance of the SIM card in iPhones, effective in the United States since 2022. This year, it was assumed, all iPhones sold in the world would be affected and would have to rely on an eSIM, welded inside the phone. Surprise: nothing has changed, the models sold in Canada, in particular, still include this slot. This is because major regional Canadian providers, including Videotron and SaskTel, do not yet offer eSIM activation.
Retro MTL is growing
The counter-current success of Retro MTL, a Montreal video game store best known for its offering vintage among its 32,000 products in stock, does not seem to be running out of steam. Founded online in 2017 before opening a store in Hochelaga in 2019, this institution has grown despite the turmoil that swept away most stores of its kind in North America. On September 28, we will officially celebrate the move to a larger space, at 4023, rue Hochelaga, with the unveiling of a range of clothing, derivative products and a new “collaborative” beer.
Paid music
Studios have an additional reason to refine the music in their video games: it can bring in interesting sums on streaming music platforms. The specialized site SecureCheats has made a studious compilation of the most listened to soundtracks on Spotify, crowning Grand Theft Auto Vwhich achieved 305 million streams and generated revenue of US$725,996. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimwith $615,659, and The Last of Uswith $427,052, complete the podium.
The home office
The Epson ET-8500 printer is so packed with features that it feels like you have a business device at home. Its touch screen and mobile app mark its entry into 2023, while its ink supply costs 90% less than cartridges. We were impressed with the contrast and pure colors delivered, whether for color documents or photos. It still seems fragile to us for its steep price, and its durability worries us.
Quiz
Why should you take your computer out of your luggage during airport checks?
Answer
A computer’s battery and components are too dense to allow X-rays to pass through, which would theoretically allow prohibited objects to be hidden inside or underneath them.
