Did you like the District 31 final?

Satisfied with the way Luc Dionne has come full circle District 31 after six years on ICI Radio-Canada Télé? You are in good company. Following an appeal to all, it is clear that the final broadcast last Thursday was almost unanimous. Here is a selection of reader comments.

“Luc Dionne succeeded in the final of District 31 in an exemplary manner. Every minute was full of emotion. My favorite moment was when the commander let go of the moose, especially when you know he killed Phaneuf in cold blood! I liked it when he confessed to Mélissa Corbeil that she was right. Mr. Dionne really went around the characters and I particularly enjoyed seeing them in the future. I have never missed a show. I recorded every episode. It had become an addiction (I almost created a D.A. movement, District Anonyme!). That’s the only reason I’m glad it’s over: I’m getting my freedom back! »

“Brilliant, from Luc Dionne, to end the life of District 31 itself at the same time as that of the show. The goodbyes and the wet eyes played their part doubly in these two coordinated endings. This conclusion also allowed us to see many of our favorite actors one last time. Suggestion: create a quiz show about the series (much like the show did All for one at the time on the adventures of Tintin). I’m sure many loyal 31 followers would rise highly to the challenge of measuring up to answer the questions. The winners could be given an article (derivative) of the show: a coffee cup with the SPGM crest, for example. Just to identify which actors played which roles, during these six years, would be a miracle. The suggestion is launched! Chick! »

“Without a doubt an exceptional series that I have followed year after year with the greatest pleasure. Let’s not forget that during the confinement, this series continued and, in my case, funny to say, but it contributed to my balance because I could find it faithfully every evening. Thank you to the artists who brought us so much entertainment and fun! »

“This last episode was completely in line with my expectations! Emotion without tears, loops curled with finesse, a dramatic punch: the revenge of Poupou’s son, the well-measured sadness of the characters who leave each other, the acting of all the actors and actresses who have captivated us for six years. And what about the epilogue “a few years later”! Brilliant and comforting! Thanks to Luc Dionne and his knitting of intrigues that kept us in suspense all this time! Thanks to the technicians who brought it all to life! »

“Oh yes, this District 31 has been the best pastime so far during our retirement. At 80, we had plenty of time from the very beginning to “hang on” at 7 p.m. to our television. Never disappointed with the script, the talent of the actors! On the contrary ! We would have liked so much, my more than darling and I, that it continues for the next half hour. But no ! We remained on our appetite, sometimes trying to glimpse the course of the next day. At our age, we had time! We have only very sincere praise to offer to all those who filled these 21 minutes thanks to the author Luc Dionne whose name will continue to live with us […] and of course to the invisible team behind the cameras who made it possible with their professionalism to achieve everything brilliantly! »

“I would have omitted the murder of Labelle. Not much hope for the youth. Do justice to yourself. Luc Dionne wanted to end on a dramatic note. But there will be no sequel… Thank you anyway. This show has created a bond with my spouse who does not usually watch series. »

“Radio-Canada could have produced a one-hour special, but no: a short finale, filled with happiness and beautiful emotions. It was after a heart operation, riveted to my sofa when I was barely moving, that I started watching the series. My heart never let go afterwards and I fell in love with the series. Thank you to the whole team, author, actors, actresses, production artists, researchers and any other water carriers in the shadows that I would not like to forget. For my girlfriend and I, it was a pleasure to follow you daily. »

” Yes. Being a civilian who spent 17 years in the investigation office of post 45, watching a few episodes of the series disturbed me by the realism that I experienced. I didn’t miss the last one and I join all Quebecers in telling you that this series was a real one. »

“Not quite up to my expectations. A little too teary. After all these murders, intrigues, kidnappings, betrayals, imprisonments, mad pursuits, scenes of prostitution, there was a little too much good feeling. And, and… I especially don’t understand how Poupou’s son was able to learn where Labelle was and how a pack of police officers present on the scene, alert and seasoned, could not prevent this fatal gesture, which will lead him straight to prison for life… He had already paid enough for the loss of his father. I remain on my hunger. »

“I imagined several ‘acceptable’ conclusions… He was better than my imagination. Action to the end without exaggerated cries or tears, smiles, winks, complicity between the characters. Clever mix of action and sentimentality in a writing that respects established rules without haughty artifices or vulgar belittlements. That, in my opinion, is the talent of the author. Take a rest, Mr. Dionne, and come back to us with this immense talent that cannot be denied! »

“With Luc Dionne, you can’t have expectations. Each time it surpasses our imagination and circumvents the scenarios we imagine. […] The commander’s confessions were tasty, especially with Mélissa Corbeil. What a character this commander has become, a model, a source of inspiration for managers. The team spirit that reigned within these walls is a lesson for all working groups. The baggage of memories that we keep from this series will help us to overcome this mourning. Plus, we’re reassured to know all of our beloved characters are happy in their new lives. »

” Nope. Maybe my expectations were very high, but I found that the dialogue between Mélissa Corbeil and Daniel Chiasson made no sense. It was super silly. Some situations in this final didn’t make sense either. It is not possible that François Labelle shows up so often in the hiding place of his henchman as if there was only one biker in town. And also the fact that Stéphane’s son kills François Labelle precisely at the time of his arrest. For me, this whole series of events and the resulting sloppy sequence show that Luc Dionne was out of control and that he did well to stop writing this series. In fact, it seems that I heal faster from the loss of District because he ruined my ending. Only one thing finds grace in my eyes, it is the jump in time. I would have taken more. »

“Yes, a great final without too many tears! We must tell Luc Dionne that he saved the mental health of all Quebecers by continuing to write during confinement! The 30 minutes a day in front of our screens took us out of the pandemic, without making any allusion to it either. Me and my fellow healthcare workers needed to hear and see something other than the pandemic and discuss it the next day, between two screening tests carried out or two vaccines administered! Have a good rest, Luc Dionne, you deserve it. »

“You want to know if the ultimate episode met my expectations. Quite honestly, I was just trying not to have one. Best way not to be disappointed. On the other hand, I can say that this episode concluded the series well. Indeed, Luc Dionne, by closing the saga of the confrontation between François Labelle and our beloved Daniel Chiasson, gave me a lot of satisfaction. In addition, he had one last punch in store for us with the death of Labelle. I must say that I did not see it coming, that shot, although I was expecting it. Finally, all the ingredients that made the success of this series were there: emotion, intrigue and twists. I look forward to the next series of Luc Dionne. I wish him a lot of fun on the golf courses this summer. »

“The finish was surprisingly sweet. The beautiful song at the end [Au temps qui ne revient plus, interprétée par Roxane Filion] was instantly on my playlist (thanks, Shazam!). I think it’s in September that the biggest shock will come: that’s when the lack will be more intense, when we realize for real that our essentials are no longer there! Thank you for these years of emotions and entertainment, the trip was exceptional. »
