Excluded 15 days from the National Assembly for racist remarks, the deputy RN Grégoire de Fournas has displayed for several years his hostility to the hiring of foreign labor. He nevertheless resorted to it several times as a winegrower.
The deputy of the National Rally, Grégoire de Fournas, was excluded from the National Assembly for 15 days after racist remarks. He is also a winegrower in the Médoc, and he has a very clear position on the employment of foreign workers in the vineyards. “Me, I don’t understand that from the moment we have 20% unemployment in Pauillac, the châteaux don’t make an effort to hire local labor to work in the vineyards […]. Me, I am a winegrower in Saint-Germain-d’Esteuil, with much less resources than the grands crus of Pauillac, and yet I only hire local labor“, he declared to France Bleu in December 2019.
He did, however, employ foreign workers, on at least two occasions. In 2019, he revealed it himself on Facebook, believing that he had been deceived by his provider. A team of German journalists working on RN voting in the great wine region arrived unannounced at her chateau in April 2022. She then met “seasonal workers from Portugal“, behind a warehouse, “away from prying eyes“. They slept in tents, without any facilities. Evoking “an exception“with journalists, Grégoire de Fournas admits that“there were simply no French workers available“.
