(Los Angeles) Gabriel Moreno’s three-run homer was the highlight of a six-run first inning for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 on Saturday in the first game in their National League second round series.
Merrill Kelly finally beat the Dodgers for the first time. In his first playoff start at age 34, he started the game 0-11 against the Dodgers.
Kelly gave up three hits in 6 1/3 innings of work, the last of the three being a single off the bat of Miguel Rojas. He had an 11-game strikeout streak.
Clayton Kershaw gave up six points in the 100e playoff game in Dodger Stadium history.
Kershaw is now 13-13 in the playoffs.
Kershaw allowed a double to Ketel Marte. Corbin Carroll then hit a single that made it 1-0.
Tommy Pham singled and Christian Walker doubled, and the lead was quickly 2-0.
The only Diamondbacks hitter not on base in the game was Geraldo Perdomo, finishing the game zero in four with three strikeouts.
Miguel Castro walked Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman in the eighth inning.
The Diamondbacks won 84 games in the regular season and swept the Milwaukee Brewers in the first round of the playoffs.
The second game of the series will be played Monday in Los Angeles.
