Diallo loses in qualifying at the Miami Open

Gabriel Diallo lost 7-6 (3), 6-2 to Indian Sumit Nagal in the first round of the qualifying tournament for the Miami Tennis Open on Monday.

Diallo, which points to 133e world rank, dropped the flag after an hour and 57 minutes of play in front of Nagal, the 16e seeded in the qualifying table. Nagal will face Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong, 212, in the next rounde in the world, who disposed of Frenchman Hugo Gaston 6-2, 3-6 and 6-2.

Diallo, a 22-year-old tennis player, dominated Nagal 7-3 in aces, except that he was messy in several other aspects of his game. He notably committed six double faults, compared to zero for his opponent, in more than having been responsible for 14 unforced errors. In comparison, the Indian has committed only four.

The Quebecer was also less effective than his opponent with his first and second service balls, in addition to being unable to convert the two break points obtained at the expense of the Indian. For his part, Nagal, 97e in the world, recorded two breaks in four opportunities against the representative of the maple leaf.

This was the first career match between Diallo and Nagal on the ATP tour.
