The selection committee for the successor to Marc Bergevin would have reduced its list to only three people and it appears that the two former Quebec players are part of it, according to journalist Eric Engels, of the Sportsnet network.
Recall that Darche is the assistant to general manager Julien BriseBois at the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brière, meanwhile, is the head of hockey operations for the Maine Mariners in the ECHL.
Both wore blue-white-red uniforms towards the end of their hockey careers.
Engels also expects that some of the people the HC meets for the DG job could get other roles within the organization. There is in particular the position of director of amateur recruiting, previously that of Trevor Timmins, which is undoubtedly very coveted.
Over the past two weeks, the committee made up of Geoff Molson, Jeff Gorton, Bob Gainey and Michael Andlauer has met with a dozen candidates, including former goalkeepers Patrick Roy and Roberto Luongo.
The Habs’ decision could be known in the coming days, several media reported.
