Development of photovoltaic solar energy, COP26, regulation of hunting … the “8h30 franceinfo” by Barbara Pompili

Barbara Pompili, Minister of Ecological Transition, was the guest of the “8:30 am franceinfo” on Wednesday November 3, 2021. She answered questions from Marie Bernardeau and Jean-François Achilli.

Photovoltaic panels: “a thousand projects by 2025”

The government wishes to accelerate the development of photovoltaic solar energy in France. Barbara Pompili presented the ten measures contained in a specific action plan, which will be detailed in the afternoon. It aims in particular to free up public spaces, limit the consumption of land and simplify procedures. While the country is today at a production of “12 Gigawatts”, according to figures from the ministry, Barbara Pompili hopes, by 2028, “to multiply by three the photovoltaic installations” and “by seven” by 2050.

“What we want is to deploy all the spaces where we can put photovoltaics, while being careful not to make the land artificial, it’s a sewing job”, added the minister, hoping “have 1,000 projects by 2025”. This plan “aims to feed everyone”, assured Barbara Pompili. “We are putting the package on the solar because we are late on this subject.”

COP26: “This international pressure is the way to make major emitting countries evolve”

“Let’s not forget that China is everyone’s factory”said Minister for the Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, reacting to criticism made against China in the framework of the COP26 which has been held since Sunday in Glasgow, Scotland, in the absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping. “What is happening in China is also the consequence of the relocation of our factories”, she added.

According to the minister, the success of this COP will depend on the capacity of the biggest polluters “to say how they are going to do” to lower their greenhouse gas emissions. However, she welcomed some announcements that were, according to her, “unthinkable in spring”.

Hunting regulation: “Everything can be done”

The Minister for the Ecological Transition returned to the accidents linked to hunting, which reopened the debate on whether or not it could be banned on weekends and during school holidays. “Anything can be done”, declared Barbara Pompili, in response to the proposal of five mayors of Ille-et-Vilaine to set days or half-days without hunting, after a serious hunting accident last Saturday in Laillé, in their department. “It is an idea which, at one point, arises and on which we must have a debate”, replied the minister.

Barbara Pompili clarified that since the beginning of the year, eight hunting licenses “were suspended because people did not play by the rules.” The Minister wants hunting regulation “as best as possible and above all, that we reinstate the dialogue between everyone”, she pleaded, while observing that “the oppositions between each other do not allow to move forward.”
