Where does the intox come from?
With the murder of the teacher in Saint Jean de Luz on February 22, the question of violence at school is back in the public debate. In this context, Jacques Clostermann, former candidate for the Reconquest legislative elections shared a video, viewed more than 300,000 times. It shows a scene of chaos in a classroom, where students fight and throw tables at their teacher. Deploring the laxity of the school, he notes that “a severe recovery in hand is essential… But after years where the teachers explained to us that the pupils were first of all friends…”
If the legend does not specify where this scene is filmed, the sympathizer of Eric Zemmour responds in the comments that it would have taken place in Saint-Denis, near Paris. To Internet users who tell him that it did not take place in France, he then concedes: “It seems to be in the US. But they are the same in France”.
Why is this wrong?
This scene did not actually take place in either country. For several years, this video has been regularly shared by mentioning a class from Seine-Saint-Denis. However, you just have to pay attention to realize that the students speak Portuguese. Reverse image search confirms the scene received media coverage in Brazil in March 2019.
According to the Brazilian press, the violence was filmed in a school in the city of Carapicuíba in the state of São Paulo. Local education authorities then announced that seven students had been suspended for throwing books and desks at their teacher.
