” Yesterday or the day before, at a K-pop concert in Paris, there is a girl who was bitten and she died of it », writes for example a user on Twitter, May 6. Other messages, all equally anxiousreport dozens of stings in the public.
The rumor of the death started from a Discord discussion server, dedicated to Ateez fans. The day after the concert, a person under a pseudonym posted a message on the social network, informing that one of her friends had been taken to the emergency room after being bitten “on the arm”. The next day, this same source, still anonymous, returns to the discussion group, with a terrible announcement: her friend finally died of a heart attack, following the injection.
Touched by this tragedy, the administrator of the group, with whom the Internet user exchanges, first broadcasts the news, before retracting and apologizing. Too late: the information has spread like wildfire on Twitter, Instagram and Tiktok.
But let K-pop fans be reassured: neither the Paris prosecutor’s office nor the concert hall, contacted by Déintox, had any knowledge of a death. The prosecution still opened an investigation for sting, following a complaint filed by a young woman after the concert. A single investigation, far from the dozens of cases announced by the networks.
