At 9:13 p.m., a journalist, supporting table, credits Marine Le Pen with more than 14.4 million votes, ahead of Emmanuel Macron who only received 14.1 million. The journalist specifies that this is the count of ballots counted, directly from the Ministry of the Interior.
Problem: when an hour and a half later, the same journalist makes a new point: Marine Le Pen no longer has more than 11,500,000 votes. Or 2.9 million votes less. Emmanuel Macron lost a few hundred thousand votes. Second anomaly: according to the final figures validated by the Ministry of the Interior on Monday morning, Marine Le Pen finally obtained 13,297,760 votes. Or 1.1 million votes less than the total given to the candidate by France 2 at 9:10 p.m.
Contacted by Déintox, the information department of France Télévisions confirms that the figures presented on the air were not the right ones, and attributes this big hiccup to the bug of a service provider. The same source explains that the journalists on set, caught in the heat of election night, could not take the time to explain the error made live.
