It has now been a year and a half since the Frenchman Benjamin Brière has been detained in Iran, accused of espionage. At the end of December, he began a hunger strike to express his discontent and denies the accusations.

Deprived of his liberty for a month in the heart of a prison in eastern Iran, Frenchman Benjamin Brière has been accused of espionage and propaganda against the Iranian regime. What he is criticized for: having taken photos of prohibited areas with his drone. He was still traveling in his campervan and had been cruising Iran for five months when he was arrested. In the Lyon region, his sister denies these accusations. “It’s completely unreal, we are in an unfounded delirium. Benjamin is obviously not a spy.”

The Frenchman has just started a hunger strike. His lawyer has no more news. “We do not know the fate reserved for him judicially, he has no access to any judge, no trial, no right of defense”, he explains. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs qualifies the accusations that have been made incomprehensible and is monitoring the case closely.
