“Destiny is others”, Claudine Bourbonnais

For his 10e title, Collection III, directed by Danielle Laurin, hits hard. Once again. Signed Claudine Bourbonnais, Destiny is others takes us back, firstly, to the end of the 1980s, when a wind of optimism was blowing across the planet, among others in the Middle East, where peace was believed to be possible. At the time, the future anchor of Radio-Canada was undertaking studies on this part of the world. It is there, in England, that she meets Marwan, a student of Palestinian origin with whom she has long conversations. Marwan who disappears one day. And who, in 2006, reappears indirectly in his life and within their group of friends, which time has scattered. Nine years after the publication of the highly successful Metis Beach, Claudine Bourbonnais therefore returns to writing, in a novel where fiction mixes with three very real memories. It is very beautiful, in style as well as in form. And painfully topical.
