The establishment of a pending ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. In the opinion of a senior Hamas official, Osama Hamdane, the plan presented by Joe Biden on May 31 does not constitute a “new proposition” with a view to an agreement with Israel to stop the fighting in the Palestinian enclave. “The truth is that there are no new proposals presented to Hamas”he declared by telephone on Thursday June 6 to AFP.

The American president had outlined the broad outlines of a three-phase plan, proposed according to him by Israel, with a view to a complete ceasefire between the Israeli army and Hamas in the Gaza Strip including a gradual liberation hostages held in Gaza, presenting it as an Israeli road map.

But for Osama Hamdane, “there is no proposal, these are just words said by Biden in a speech” still too free in form, according to him. “So far, the Americans have not presented any document that commits them to respecting what Biden said in his speech”he declared from Beirut (Lebanon), where he operates. Hamas is ready to accept a deal, he said, if it understands its demands, including a permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.
