(Los Angeles) The animated film Despicable Me 4the latest installment in the Minions universe, topped the North American box office in its first weekend in theaters, according to projections Sunday from specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.
This new installment of the adventures of these completely stupid but terribly endearing little characters, which once again depicts their fight against the big bad Bru, has accumulated $75 million in revenue since Friday in theaters in Canada and the United States. It is distributed by Universal Pictures.
In second place with 30 million comes the animated film Inside Out 2the highly anticipated sequel to the Pixar and Disney film about the throes of adolescence.
Following, A Quiet Place: Day Onegrossed $21 million in its opening weekend. The third installment in the apocalyptic horror film series, starring actress Lupita Nyong’o, tells the story of an alien invasion in New York City.
At the foot of the podium, with 6.7 million dollars in revenue, comes another horror film, Maxxinethe story of a killer who scares Hollywood and an actress on the rise.
The action comedy Bad Boys 4starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, closes this top 5 with $6.5 million.
