Desjardins Group announced Thursday that a settlement agreement of more than $ 200 million had been reached following the filing of class actions in connection with the personal information leaks announced in June 2019.
Desjardins specifies that the agreement reached with the plaintiffs represented by the law firms Siskinds Desmeules and Kugler Kandestin is currently being evaluated by the Superior Court of Quebec, which must approve it before it can come into force.
The agreement provides for the payment of a maximum of more than 200.85 million in the form of individual payments to eligible persons who request them.
On its site, Desjardins indicates that the agreement covers all those affected by the situation concerning personal information announced on June 20, 2019, namely members and former members of Desjardins, holders and former holders of a credit card. Desjardins or a financing product at Desjardins points of sale as well as all the people who have received a communication to inform them of the situation.
The agreement provides for two types of claims. “If you are affected by the situation announced in June 2019, you may be eligible for a maximum claim of $ 90. If you suffered identity theft after 1er January 2017, you may be eligible for a maximum claim in the amount of $ 1,000 ”, we read.
Before any claims can be submitted, the settlement agreement must be approved by the Superior Court of Quebec. After final approval, members will be informed by a notice sent in AccèsD or by mail or by public notices published in newspapers nationwide.
