Derek Jeter leaves the Marlins

Former shortstop Derek Jeter announced Monday his departure from the Miami Marlins, a team for which he served as president and co-owner.

The former New York Yankees star confirmed the news of his departure in a statement, noting that philosophical differences persist between him and other leaders of the organization. Jeter had completed the purchase of the franchise in August 2017 along with businessman Bruce Sherman and held a 4% stake in the club.

“Five years ago, we had a vision to get the Marlins back on track, and as president, I was proud to have put my name and reputation on the line to bring that plan to fruition,” he said. -He specifies. Through hard work, trust and accountability, we have transformed every aspect of this dealership by reshaping the workforce and developing a plan for long-term success.”

“Having said that, the vision for the future of this team is different from what I once accepted. As the season is about to start, it’s the right time to retire.”

In 2021, the Marlins finished fourth in the National League East with a 67-95 record. During Jeter’s stint in the roster, it hired the first general manager in majors history, Kim Ng.
