A new kind of dental centers are setting up in the middle of shopping malls, to allow the French to have easier and faster access to care. This is for example the case in Blanc-Mesnil, in Seine-Saint-Denis.

At the heart of a shopping mall located at Blanc-Mesnil (Seine-Saint-Denis), a dental clinic has opened a few meters from the supermarket checkouts. “It’s great when we go shopping, we don’t have time during the week, [donc] we make our little appointment, then we will quickly get our teeth fixed“, confides Milouda Bendida, a resident of Blanc-Mesnil. Patients appreciate finding a center available and without exceeding fees.

The Solidarity Association Against Medical Deserts (ASCDM) has opened three clinics in shopping malls. A dozen dentists share the brand new offices. The association has arguments to recruit them. “They come as employees, they only have the heart of their job to do“, explains Arnaud Durand, general manager of the ASCDM. A law of 2009, which aims to fight against medical deserts, authorizes associations to open dental centers. According to the unions, most centers only settle however not in medical deserts.
