Denis Villeneuve tackles another work of science fiction

After Dune, by Frank Herbert, Denis Villeneuve will adapt another science-fiction novel to the cinema: Rendezvous With Rama, by Arthur C. Clarke.

Released in 1973, the novel by the author of 2001: A Space Odyssey follows a group of astronauts who must intercept an alien vessel and thus make contact for the first time with another form of intelligence.

“It is a work that perfectly suits the brilliant sensitivity of our friend and collaborator Denis and particularly his love and passion for science fiction,” said producers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, in an interview with Tea Hollywood Reporter. The two men worked with Denis Villeneuve on Prisoners and Blade Runner: 2049. Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary are also among the producers.

The Quebec director will also receive the William Cameron Menzies Prize, which will be presented at the annual Guild of Artistic Directors ceremony next March.

“We are delighted to recognize the breadth and scope of director Denis Villeneuve’s cinematic vision with [ce] price, ”said Nelson Coates, president of the association.
