From the outset, Denis Villeneuve made a point of specifying that he had approached Dunes 2 as the second part of a work and not as a sequel. “I wanted the film to start when we left the characters [à la fin de la première partie]he told the Vanity Fair. Describing Dunes: Part 2 as “an epic war and action film”, Villeneuve also said he was careful not to let the love story between Chani (Zendaya) and Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) take up too much of the plot. .
“I wanted to make a very human film, very close to the characters, in spite of the scale of the project, underlined the scenario writer. I always told my team that the most important element of the film is this spark and this relationship between these characters. Their relationship is the epicenter of the film’s story.”
The second part of Dunes hits theaters November 3. Released in the fall of 2021, the first film in the saga generated more than $400 million at the global box office.
