Denis Shapovalov defeats Antoine Bellier and advances to the quarters in Stockholm

Denis Shapovalov reached the quarter-finals of the Stockholm Open on Wednesday, losing 6-4, 7-5 to Antoine Bellier of Switzerland.

Seeded fourth, the 23-year-old Ontarian had eight aces and broke his opponent’s serve twice in four occasions.

The Canadian also won 86% of rallies played on his first ball.

Bellier did not take advantage of any break opportunities.

Shapovalov will face the winner of the duel between JJ Wolf and Alex de Minaur.

Tournament favorite Stefanos Tsitsipas snatched a 7-6 (5) 7-6 (12) win from Maxime Cressy, 33e in the world.

Cressy had 11 aces, but he also had five unforced errors. There was only one break on each side.
